Role Overview

The Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer will collaborate closely with a team of Electrical Engineers and Supervisors to execute electrical commissioning tasks. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the project timetable while ensuring that electrical systems meet quality and safety standards. Additionally, this role involves overseeing External Vendors and Sub-Contractors, guaranteeing high-quality and timely completion of their work. This position reports directly to the Commissioning Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commissioning assignments relating to Electrical Vendors.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the defined scope of work.
  • Supervise and monitor the progress and delivery of project scope.
  • Communicate deadlines and commissioning (Cx) programme milestones effectively.
  • Provide ongoing management and progress updates on the commissioning programme and timelines.
  • Participate in daily and weekly commissioning meetings with internal teams and vendors, contributing valuable input.
  • Prepare and update weekly progress reports for commissioning vendors for submission to commissioning management.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Project QA/QC department to meet quality objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Project Energy Marshall department for planning and coordinating onsite switching and permitting activities.
  • Track and secure approvals for relevant electrical commissioning documentation such as test scripts and compliance statements.
  • Observe and review vendor commissioning activities for compliance against approved project documentation.
  • Execute the commissioning tagging process and related procedures.
  • Oversee all daily on-site commissioning operations for assigned packages.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with SCADA/Automation controls utilizing IEC-61850, Modbus-TCP, and Soft PLC systems is essential.
  • Proven hands-on expertise in site-based testing and validation of automation systems.
  • Ability to design and optimize SCADA systems and interpret related code.
  • Comprehensive understanding of MV/GOOSE interlocking systems and electrical process controls.
  • Familiarity with network architecture requirements for control systems.
  • Developing and implementing test strategies for SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of process flow development and interpretation.
  • Experience with gas or power generation plants, preferably with emergency backup configurations.
  • Proficiency with Siemens Siprotec relays, Digsi files, and MV switchgear.
  • Strong grasp of N+1 redundancy requirements for data centre backup systems.
  • Experience coding in FBD, Ladder Logic, and Sequential Function Chart (SFC) is highly advantageous.
  • Relevant certifications in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or formal training through an Electrical Trade qualification such as NVQ.
  • At least five years' experience in a similar commissioning role within a construction environment, ideally involving commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, or data centre projects.
  • Hands-on commissioning experience with LV, MV, or HV electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, busway systems, ATS, EPMS, BMS, HVAC systems, or similar assets.
  • Understanding of construction processes and safety protocols.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and decisive action-taking capability.
  • A process-oriented mindset with a focus on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and quality work management systems is desirable.
