Overview
A prominent global technology company with a significant research and development hub in Cambridge is expanding their CPU Performance team. They seek a Senior CPU Hardware Performance Architect to advance the design and development of cutting-edge high-performance CPU cores.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and specify the microarchitecture for future CPU generations.
- Work closely with hardware and software teams to interpret system-level requirements into CPU architectural capabilities.
- Create, update, and enhance cycle-accurate CPU simulators and functional models.
- Develop performance assessment models to analyze new microarchitectural proposals and design choices.
- Innovate with new CPU microarchitecture features and evaluate their impact on performance.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of architectural concepts considering performance, power consumption, and chip area (PPA).
- Analyze real-world workloads to pinpoint CPU and system bottlenecks.
- Perform sensitivity analyses to assess how workloads respond to changing architectural parameters.
- Use performance modeling and workload profiling data to steer CPU optimization strategies.
- Investigate performance constraints and provide data-driven architectural improvement recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related area, supported by extensive industry experience; a PhD is also acceptable.
- Over six years of professional experience in CPU architecture, performance engineering, processor design, or similar technical fields.
- In-depth knowledge of modern CPU microarchitecture concepts.
- Expertise in CPU architecture and microarchitecture design.
- Proven track record developing new microarchitectural concepts from research stages through implementation and silicon production.
- Hands-on experience with cycle-accurate CPU simulator development and utilization.
- Proficient in building and applying functional simulators and performance modeling tools.
Technical Skills Keywords
This role involves working with high-performance CPUs focusing on microarchitecture, cycle-accurate and functional simulation, workload characterization, and performance-power-area trade-offs. Key techniques include branch prediction, out-of-order execution, memory hierarchy design, and pre-silicon performance analysis using C++ and Python.
