Senior Commissioning Engineer (Electrical)

Job Overview

The Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for enhancing the commissioning processes by leveraging their expertise and best practices within McDermott. This role involves mentoring less experienced colleagues and applying in-depth discipline knowledge to resolve complex challenges, thereby improving project outcomes and services.

Responsibilities

• Report directly to the Commissioning Manager and assist the Principal Commissioning Engineer in preparing home office deliverables.
• Engage in site activities including walk-down inspections, punch listing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and instrument system issues encountered during the project.
• Collaborate effectively with the Project team and Client to maintain positive working relationships.
• Support commissioning activities such as manuals development, commissioning/start-up spares development, first fills and consumables development, and preparation of commissioning and start-up procedures.
• Conduct equipment system checks and functional testing on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
• Participate in commissioning, start-up, and performance testing to resolve any operational or maintenance issues.
• Supervise craft personnel involved in site pre-commissioning and commissioning tasks.
• Coordinate with other engineers in the commissioning group to ensure smooth execution of activities.

Reporting and Collaboration

Reports to the Project Commissioning Manager and Functional Commissioning Manager. Liaises with Commissioning Manager, Discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, and Construction/Fabrication teams. Oversees commissioning engineers, completions specialists, operation & maintenance specialists, designers, and support personnel within the function group.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
• 8 to 15 years of professional experience in oil and gas with reputable contractors or consultants.
• Strong grasp of commissioning, completions, and training principles, with a foundational understanding of construction, operations, and maintenance.
• Industry knowledge applied to enhance effectiveness within projects.
• Preferably holds a diploma or degree related to engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience working in chemical, refinery, or oil & gas processing facilities.
• Minimum of 2 years of commissioning and start-up experience in related industries preferred.
• Excellent ability to communicate technical ideas clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Strong organizational capabilities with adaptability to the demands of multiple discipline groups.
• Able to clearly assess and convey project requirements and expectations constructively.
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally for construction site assignments.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of additional languages is a benefit.
