About the Role
KPMG Canada is seeking a dedicated Senior AWS Platform Engineer to join their National Architecture – Platforms & Services team. This role involves managing secure, scalable, and reliable cloud platforms that support innovation across the organization by overseeing two AWS Organizations. Working remotely, you will be responsible for cloud platform administration, automation using Terraform, cloud governance, operational reporting, and stakeholder communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee platform activities for multiple AWS Organizations, including account governance and lifecycle management.
- Administer and enhance enterprise AWS environments with multi-account setups and organizational controls.
- Create and uphold Terraform Infrastructure as Code standards, reusable modules, and deployment methodologies to ensure consistent and scalable operations.
- Develop automation for provisioning AWS accounts, configuring cloud resources, identity controls, networking, monitoring, and operations.
- Support governance efforts by enforcing platform guardrails, security measures, compliance, tagging policies, and baseline configurations.
- Collaborate closely with architects, security specialists, operations teams, application developers, and business units to transform requirements into secure and manageable cloud platform features.
- Monitor platform health and reliability, analyze operational metrics, and lead initiatives to improve resiliency, automation, and support processes.
- Address complex infrastructure and platform challenges through troubleshooting, collaborating internally and with vendors as needed.
- Prepare detailed operational reports and presentations to convey platform status, risks, progress, and improvement strategies to diverse stakeholder groups.
- Contribute to cloud engineering best practices, DevOps standards, platform documentation, and team knowledge sharing.
- Proactively identify and implement opportunities for enhancing platform efficiency, cost control, maturity of controls, and operational performance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven expertise in managing and engineering AWS in enterprise environments.
- Extensive experience administering AWS Organizations, multi-account frameworks, and shared cloud services.
- Advanced proficiency with Terraform including module design, remote state handling, workspace policies, and CI/CD integration.
- Deep knowledge of cloud architecture components such as networking, IAM, logging, monitoring, security, and operational practices.
- Self-motivated team player with excellent multitasking abilities and independent work ethic.
- Strong communication skills for documentation, stakeholder engagement, and delivering presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to clearly articulate technical platform information to business stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving aptitude alongside a mindset focused on continuous improvement.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including architecture, security, operations, procurement, vendor management, and business leaders.
- Bilingual communication skills highly valued.
Technical Expertise
- Proficiency with AWS Organizations, organizational units, service control policies, and multi-account governance models.
- Experience with Terraform Cloud or Terraform Enterprise, including module development and pipeline automation.
- Knowledge of AWS security and governance tools such as IAM, Identity Center, CloudTrail, Config, GuardDuty, Security Hub, and Systems Manager.
- Understanding of AWS networking including VPC, routing, security groups, DNS, VPN, Direct Connect and private connectivity concepts.
- Familiarity with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or equivalents.
- Skill in automation and scripting languages like Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
- Expertise in monitoring, logging, alerting, observability, and operational reporting for cloud services.
- Cloud cost management, tagging strategies, policy enforcement, and configuration control assurance.
- Bonus asset: experience with containers, Kubernetes, or platform engineering.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or HashiCorp Terraform Associate are desirable but not mandatory.
- Additional certifications in cloud, security, networking, DevOps, or automation are advantageous.
Language and Compliance
Written and spoken fluency in English is mandatory, as is the ability to collaborate with English-speaking colleagues. The role may require interpreting policies, practices, laws, or regulations relevant to the job.
Compensation and Values
