Overview
Joining Walmart Canada as a Self-Checkout Attendant provides a valuable chance to hone customer service and retail operational skills. The role is centered on ensuring customers have a smooth and pleasant experience with self-checkout by offering assistance and support at the self-service checkout stations. This position suits those seeking an engaging role within a lively and fast-moving retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep the self-checkout area tidy, safe, and well-organized, free from clutter, spills, and any foreign materials.
- Promote Walmart’s programs, such as credit card offers, product protection plans, and charity initiatives when applicable.
- Assist customers in efficiently using self-checkout by providing guidance, supervising activity, performing necessary checks, and calmly explaining any interventions. Escalate technical or cash-related issues to the Customer Service Manager as needed.
- Handle Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alerts according to set procedures and maintain accurate records in the “Failure to Deactivate” log.
- Manage Scan & Go equipment by ensuring scanners are returned to their designated spots after use.
- Be flexible to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays to help maintain smooth store operations and consistent service.
Challenges in the Role
- Effectively deal with high workloads in fast-paced settings, including managing overnight shifts with proper planning to sustain energy and focus.
- Perform physical activities such as standing for long periods, bending, lifting objects up to 20 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs, and executing repetitive stocking and organizing tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Compensation
The starting hourly wage for this position is $18.40.
