Position Overview
As a Self Checkout Attendant at Walmart Canada, you will play a vital role in enhancing the shopping experience by offering friendly assistance and support to customers using self-service checkout stations. This position is ideal for individuals eager to develop skills in customer service within a vibrant retail setting.
Primary Responsibilities
- Keep the self checkout area tidy, safe, and organized by promptly removing any debris, spills, or obstacles.
- Promote Walmart programs such as credit card offerings, product protection plans, and charitable campaigns when relevant.
- Assist customers in navigating and operating self-checkout machines confidently and efficiently, providing clear, courteous explanations during any interventions, and escalate cash or technical issues to management.
- Respond appropriately to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alarms, documenting instances in the "Failure to Deactivate" log as required.
- Ensure Scan & Go devices are properly returned to their designated storage after use.
- Demonstrate flexibility by being willing to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays to maintain smooth store operations.
Potential Challenges in the Role
- Manage a high volume of tasks in a fast-paced environment, particularly effectively handling overnight shifts by maintaining focus and energy.
- Handle physical demands including standing for long periods, bending, and lifting items weighing up to 20 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Perform repetitive duties like stocking, zoning, and organizing to maintain store standards with accuracy and attention to detail.
