Role Summary

This position is based at a high-quality Horizon North camp facility near Moosonee, Ontario. The work schedule follows a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off rotation with shifts lasting 10 to 12 hours. Transportation is arranged from a designated pick-up location to the site.

The Second Cook plays a supportive role in all kitchen operations, including preparing food, maintaining cleanliness, and sanitizing kitchen equipment, tools, cookware, and dishes.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain consistent food preparation quality meeting client standards and ensure kitchen safety and sanitation in compliance with Food Safe protocols.
• Prepare sandwich ingredients such as slicing breads, cold meats, and cheeses, then assembling sandwiches with appropriate garnishes.
• Perform visual checks on cold food items to ensure appealing color and presentation.
• Manage proper storage conditions in refrigerators and freezers to preserve food freshness.
• Set up comprehensive salad bars for lunch and dinner services.
• Efficiently utilize food stocks to minimize waste.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of cooking experience in similar environments such as hotels or institutional kitchens preferred.
• At least FoodSafe Level I certification required; advanced certifications like SafeCheck or HACCP are beneficial.
• Capability to achieve at least 80% on the mandatory WHMIS test covering hazardous materials information.
