Role Objectives

This position focuses on the precise inspection and sampling of various commodities in accordance with client directions to ensure quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out sampling and inspection procedures and prepare samples as per established protocols or supervisor guidance, including tasks such as sampling, packing, labeling, sealing, sizing, and weighing commodities.
  • Document all relevant information from sampling and inspection tasks using forms or photographic evidence as required.
  • Comply with ALS and port/terminal policies including health and safety regulations, personal protective equipment use, medical requirements, and permits.
  • Follow quality control procedures, including completing data records accurately, conducting sampling under set standards, promptly reporting anomalies, maintaining traceability with internal job references, performing equipment maintenance checks, and reporting equipment faults.

Health and Safety

  • Adhere strictly to ALS health and safety standards, company values, policies, and standard operating procedures at all times.

Quality Assurance

  • Maintain work quality that meets or exceeds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards as well as company and market expectations.
  • Strictly follow ALS Quality System procedures and local legislation, ensuring compliance with the ALS Quality Management System.

Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric) or Higher Certificate is essential.
  • Familiarity with equipment utilized in sampling and sample preparation.
  • Willingness to undertake ALS induction and specific training related to port or terminal operations.
  • Reliability and ability to work independently for extended periods.
  • Openness to continuous training as job duties evolve.
  • Availability to work weekends and overtime when needed.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, impartiality, integrity, and honesty.
