About the Role
Join ALS’s Hydrographics Team based in Scoresby, Victoria, in a rare opening for an Assistant Hydrographer within the environmental monitoring unit. This position offers hands-on training and the opportunity to enroll in and receive support for a Diploma of Water Operations with a hydrography focus. It is ideal for a proactive individual looking to build a strong career path combining practical and formal education.
Key Responsibilities
- Engaging in a practical role with an emphasis on collaboration, dependability, and initiative.
- Performing regular site visits and maintenance of remote environmental monitoring stations, primarily stream flow locations.
- Gathering and validating environmental data using diverse software tools and scientific equipment.
- Providing assistance with project tasks and routine operations as needed.
- Maintaining detailed records including field notes, photographs, and mapping data.
- Supporting the upgrade and installation of environmental monitoring stations.
- Utilizing an array of hand tools and conducting manual excavation for extended durations.
Candidate Requirements
- Post-secondary qualification in environmental science, water resources, or related field preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with good organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well within a team and independently.
- Comfortable working outdoors across various environmental conditions, including periodic travel away from home.
- Capable of performing manual handling tasks in outdoor settings.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools.
- Valid automatic driver’s license and 4WD driving experience.
- Awareness and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards in fieldwork environments.
- Swimming ability.
