Job description
About the Role
We are looking to immediately onboard a Residential/Combination Building Inspector located in Savannah, GA. Reporting to the Area Inspection Manager, this position involves inspecting residential and commercial construction projects and handling various related assignments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled inspections between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Carry out daily tasks diligently and with care for private and public property.
- Effectively communicate with staff, citizens, team members, and contractors as necessary.
- Maintain thorough records and documentation of all inspection activities and compliance issues.
- Provide assistance to client personnel and teammates as required.
- Manage paperwork, respond to phone inquiries, and coordinate inspection schedules efficiently.
- Keep ICC certifications and professional qualifications current; actively pursue further ICC certifications and training; consistently review codes and standards relevant to assigned duties.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Additional training in building inspection, structural engineering, or related disciplines is preferred.
- An Associate's degree in engineering, architecture, building inspection, or an equivalent ICC certification is advantageous.
- At least 3 years of experience in residential construction inspection is required, with a preference for at least 1 year focused on erosion and sediment control inspections.
- Possession of an ICC Residential Combination Inspector certification is required; ICC Commercial Combination Inspector and GSWCC Level IB certifications are preferred.
- A valid driver’s license for the state of Georgia is necessary.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- Comprehensive understanding of building codes, municipal regulations, inspection procedures, and construction materials and methods.
- Familiarity with erosion and sedimentation control regulations and best management practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Proficiency with work-related technologies including laptops, tablets, iPhones, as well as software like Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to interpret instructions accurately and ask relevant questions when clarification is needed.
- Exemplary professional appearance and behavior.
- Self-motivated with the capability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Problem-solving oriented mind-set with a positive approach and strong relationship-building skills.
Compensation and Benefits
- The starting hourly wage ranges from $32 to $38.50, with potential increases based on experience, education, licenses, or certifications.
