Job description
Position Overview
We are looking to promptly hire a Residential/Combination Building Inspector based in Athens, GA. The individual will report to the Area Inspection Manager and conduct regular inspections on residential and commercial construction sites, along with other duties assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections as scheduled from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Complete daily assigned tasks diligently and ensure safety of private and personal properties.
- Effectively communicate with team members, contractors, citizens, and staff as needed.
- Maintain thorough records and reports on all inspection activities and compliance matters.
- Support client staff and colleagues when required.
- Manage administrative tasks such as updating files, answering calls, and arranging inspections.
- Keep ICC certifications and professional credentials up to date; pursue additional ICC certifications, attend trainings, and actively study related codes and standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Additional specialized training in building inspection, structural engineering, or related fields is preferred. An Associate's Degree in engineering, architecture, building inspection, or related discipline, or equivalent ICC certifications, will be considered an advantage.
- Experience: Candidate must have at least three years’ experience as a residential construction inspector, with preference given to those having one year or more focused experience in erosion and sediment control inspections.
- Certifications: Required - ICC Residential Combination Inspector. Preferred - ICC Commercial Inspector Combination and GSWCC Level IB Inspector certifications.
- A valid driver's license for the state of Georgia is required.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of building codes, municipal regulations, building inspection procedures, and construction materials and methods.
- Knowledge of erosion and sedimentation control regulations and Best Management Practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Proficiency in using work-related technologies such as laptops, tablets, smartphones, and software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and ask relevant questions when necessary.
- Professional demeanor, appearance, and behavior at all times.
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently without direct oversight and able to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a positive, relationship-building attitude.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting hourly wage ranges from $32 to $38.50, with adjustments possible based on experience, education, licenses, and certifications.
