Rail Design Director - Architecture

About the Role

Jacobs is on a mission to solve some of the world's most pressing challenges by developing innovative infrastructure and environments. We are currently seeking a Rail Design Director specializing in Architecture to join our Buildings & Logistics team in Abu Dhabi. This role is pivotal in steering the architectural vision, leading the technical execution, and setting strategic direction for substantial rail and transit infrastructure projects. You will oversee diverse design teams to ensure the successful completion of complex ventures such as high-speed rail, metro systems, light rail, commuter rail, transit-oriented developments, and station facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion the architectural vision and strategy for large-scale rail and transit infrastructure initiatives.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams throughout all project stages, from initial concepts to construction support.
• Develop and uphold design quality standards, governance, and technical excellence across projects.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to architects, urban designers, technical experts, and project teams, fostering innovation and teamwork.
• Lead architectural design and delivery of rail stations, interchanges, depots, maintenance facilities, and related transit infrastructure.
• Offer specialized technical knowledge in high-speed rail, metro, light rail, commuter rail, and integrated transportation projects.
• Ensure station designs optimize passenger experience, operational efficiency, accessibility, safety, and sustainability.
• Integrate rail infrastructure with adjacent urban settings, multimodal transport hubs, and transit-oriented developments.
• Engage with clients and partake in strategic planning for expansive rail system upgrades and transformations.
• Establish and nurture relationships with clients, authorities, transport operators, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Support business development efforts and identify new opportunities within rail and transportation sectors.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture is required; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
• Professional registration or chartership with a recognized architectural body is highly valued.
• Possess over 15 years of architectural and transportation infrastructure design experience, including leadership roles.
• Proven track record in managing major rail and transit infrastructure projects.
• Substantial experience designing and delivering rail stations, transit hubs, and passenger-centered infrastructure.
• Hands-on involvement with high-speed rail, metro, light rail, commuter rail, or integrated transport ventures.
• Successful delivery of large, complex projects involving numerous stakeholders and intricate technical aspects.
• Experienced in leading multidisciplinary teams across various project sites.
• Familiarity with projects in the GCC or Middle East region is preferred but not mandatory.
• Good command of international rail, transport, and infrastructure design standards.
• Strong skills in client liaison, leadership, communication, and stakeholder management.
