Role Overview

The Quantity Surveyor will collaborate with commercial and construction teams to guarantee project success, nurturing relationships, maximising commercial outcomes, and managing risks effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare tenders, evaluate and select subcontractors, negotiate and finalize subcontract agreements.
• Oversee financial and commercial aspects related to subcontractors through to final account completion.
• Maintain site records and manage document control procedures.
• Record site measurements accurately.
• Assist with forecasting, target setting and contract value reconciliations.
• Prepare valuations and variations with detailed records, and agree on changes during work progress.
• Update and submit projected final accounts punctually.
• Coordinate with site management to influence and challenge commercial issues.
• Implement commercial strategies in alignment with company objectives.
• Protect and uphold John Sisk & Son's commercial and contractual rights.
• Participate in contract value reviews while maintaining impartiality.
• Identify and evaluate risks and opportunities associated with projects.
• Develop knowledge related to insurances and warranties.
• Engage in cash flow management activities to support financial health.
• Provide support during tender processes as needed.
• Supervise Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors, reviewing their outputs.
• Maintain accurate site records and control relevant documents.
• Employ effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Utilize technology platforms efficiently.
• Be fully knowledgeable of the Standard Method of Measurement.
• Exhibit commercial awareness and take accountability.
• Apply strong organizational, interpersonal, negotiation, and time management skills.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

• University degree and progression towards relevant professional accreditation.
• Familiarity with JCT contracts.
• Proficiency in letter and report writing.
• Effective negotiation abilities.
• Experience with Contract Value Reviews (CVRs).
• Completion of a 2-day safety appreciation course inclusive of contract and commercial awareness.
• Membership of or eligibility for Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience with large-scale Design and Build contracts.
• Knowledge of claims management and dispute resolution processes.
• Understanding of contract law principles.
• Exposure to contracts exceeding €15m/£15m without direct responsibility.
• Experience managing traditional contracts.
• Supervisory role over Assistant Quantity Surveyors, including sign-off on Standard Method of Measurement or measurement concerns.
