Senior Estimator

About the Role

John Sisk & Son Ltd, a family-owned construction firm with international presence, is devoted to excellence and innovation in building projects. We are looking for a Senior Estimator who will be pivotal in delivering accurate project cost estimates that mirror practical construction methodologies and onsite realities. This role suits professionals with extensive construction experience, possibly those with backgrounds as Project Managers or significant onsite expertise, combining technical knowledge with commercial insight specifically in civil engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor and guide Estimators at all levels, aiding in their professional growth and development.
• Collaborate in developing and monitoring personal development plans for team members.
• Manage tender documentation meticulously, ensuring all updates and communications are well-tracked and distributed timely.
• Prepare and issue subcontractor enquiries clearly defining work scopes and attendance requirements; manage supplier assessments.
• Organize production and quality-check Bills of Quantities; ensure accuracy across tender components.
• Follow up on tender submissions, evaluate design inputs for value engineering opportunities, and update documentation as necessary.
• Support risk and opportunity evaluations, contribute to risk and value-engineering registers.
• Lead tender reviews, analyze subcontractor bids, prepare comparative analyses and adjudicate packages.
• Develop and maintain tender risk registers, prepare cash flow forecasts and manage bid budgets.
• Attend tender adjudication meetings and incorporate necessary amendments into submissions.
• Prepare comprehensive client pricing documents including Forms of Tender, Contract Sum Analyses, and preliminaries breakdowns.

Experience Required

• Minimum of 5 years in an estimating role within the civil engineering or construction sectors.
• Strong practical knowledge of onsite operations, sequencing, and deliverables; project management experience highly valued.
• Hands-on experience with civil engineering projects and familiarity with Design & Build approaches.
• Proficient in tender preparation and the adjudication process.
• Understanding of Public Works Contract, FIDIC, NEC, and similar contract frameworks.
• Knowledge of the Irish civil engineering and construction supply chain advantageous.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or comparable discipline.
• Valid CSCS card required.
• Membership or progress toward membership in a recognised professional body is preferred.
• Ongoing professional development in estimating, pre-construction, or commercial management is beneficial.
