Team Overview

Based in Athenry, the Supply Chain team supports Dexcom’s manufacturing operations. The Purchasing team collaborates closely with Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Global Procurement teams to secure material supply ensuring seamless production and growth. Role Summary

As the Purchasing Manager, you will lead and provide strategic direction for the procurement activities at Dexcom’s first European manufacturing plant in Athenry. You will manage a team responsible for sourcing direct and indirect materials, optimizing inventory, mitigating risks, and advancing procurement excellence while partnering closely with cross-functional teams across Operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the purchasing team to meet operational, service, cost reduction, and inventory objectives.
• Formulate and implement purchasing strategies aligned with site, regional, and global supply chain goals.
• Ensure material availability aligns with manufacturing schedules while maintaining inventory targets.
• Oversee procurement activities for direct and indirect inventory supporting manufacturing functions.
• Manage purchase orders, supplier scheduling, forecast communication, and monitor order fulfillment.
• Collaborate with Master Planning, Production Planning, and Integrated Business Planning teams to integrate procurement strategies with demand and supply forecasts.
• Develop and implement supplier performance management using KPIs.
• Lead supplier risk evaluations, business continuity plans, and proactive mitigation approaches.
• Support new product launches, supplier transitions, product lifecycle changes, and manufacturing scale-ups.
• Work with Quality, Engineering, and Supplier Quality teams on supplier qualification and performance enhancement.
• Drive initiatives to optimize inventory while sustaining service levels.
• Manage escalation processes related to material shortages, supply disruptions, and capacity constraints.
• Ensure adherence to procurement policies, SOX compliance, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with ERP system implementation and ongoing improvements, including Oracle EBS, Oracle Fusion, and purchasing tools.
• Partner with Global Procurement on sourcing strategies, contract negotiations, supplier consolidation, and cost-saving measures.
• Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on process efficiency, supplier performance, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree typically required with 8 to 12 years of relevant industry experience.
• Between 2 and 5 years of management or leadership experience.
• Proven background in direct material procurement within manufacturing settings.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
• Strong knowledge of inventory management, purchasing workflows, and supplier relations.
• Understanding of demand and supply planning coordination.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analytics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Medical Device, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
• Background in manufacturing start-up or site expansion projects.
• Familiarity with Oracle Fusion, Oracle EBS, SAP, or similar ERP platforms.
• Professional certifications such as CIPS, CPM, CPSM, or equivalents.
• Knowledge of Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP).
• Lean Six Sigma certification.
• Experience working with global suppliers and managing international supply chains.
