Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a Civil Project Manager based in Midleton/Mallow, Co. Cork, responsible for overseeing projects in the Southwest region. The position offers a competitive salary package.
Key Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- At least five years of experience in a similar civil engineering management role, ideally within the water and wastewater sector.
- Strong familiarity with Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013; possession of a 'Managing Safely' certificate for Construction Managers is preferred.
- Proven expertise in civil engineering activities including bulk earthworks, cast in-situ concrete, precast installations, construction, pipeline installation, and site finishing work.
- A Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
- Competent in negotiating contracts and financial matters with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Proficiency with project scheduling tools like Microsoft Project for creating baseline schedules and updates.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).
- Ability to independently solve problems, take initiative, and adapt to issues arising during project execution.
- Possession of a full driving license.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and sustainability policies on all sites.
- Collaborate effectively with clients, their representatives, and other stakeholders to foster a cooperative project environment.
- Lead the construction team focusing on Civil Engineering and Building work scopes.
- Coordinate and support interdisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, and process engineering specialists.
- Serve as PSCS on active sites, coordinating PSDP roles with internal and external designers and managing necessary documentation.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections and lead safety communications such as toolbox talks and white-board meetings.
- Apply project management best practices, including Lean Construction and Last Planner systems.
- Monitor project progress, assessing risks and opportunities, and implementing actions to mitigate risk and enhance project outcomes.
- Report monthly project performance metrics concerning schedule, budget, and health & safety compliance to framework management.
- Lead procurement efforts for materials and subcontractors ensuring timely and budget-compliant acquisitions.
- Manage project cash flow, coordinating payment submissions with Contracts and Commercial Managers.
- Engage actively in resource planning and recruitment as a hiring manager, and provide input on tender opportunities as needed.
- Address client and stakeholder concerns promptly and gather satisfaction feedback to aid continuous improvement.
- Keep updated with evolving industry standards and technology through ongoing professional development.
