Overview

Glanua is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Estimator to be based at their Head Office in Loughrea, County Galway. This role supports Glanua's tendering operations on significant municipal projects under Uisce Éireann and AMP8 frameworks with Thames Water, United Utilities, and Yorkshire Water. The position demands strategic expertise, deep technical knowledge, and the capability to produce competitive, high-standard proposals aligned with the company's commitment to quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed, precise mechanical estimates based on specifications, drawings, and tender documentation, incorporating sound engineering judgment and considering construction risks aligned with company governance and industry standards.
  • Participate actively in design development to evaluate constructability, installation approaches, material choices, and uncover innovative solutions.
  • Offer early-stage pricing insights to support option evaluation and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with risk management and commercial governance protocols, providing clear assumptions and clarifications for sound decision-making.
  • Contribute to the planning of tender and construction schedules, coordinating staffing and resource allocation to meet delivery targets.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to formulate purchasing plans, select capable suppliers and subcontractors, conduct tender evaluations, and negotiate pricing.
  • Stay informed on mechanical systems, installation methods, industry updates, and market conditions to enhance tender competitiveness and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain financial models for framework bids, including staff rates and commercial scenarios, supporting price revision processes.
  • Utilize standardized cost coding for effective cost tracking, benchmarking, and refinement of estimating processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of mechanical estimating experience within water, wastewater, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated success in creating accurate and competitive mechanical estimates for intricate treatment plant projects.
  • Experience collaborating with public utility clients such as Uisce Éireann or major UK water providers preferred.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, treatment processes, and installation techniques.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a dynamic tendering setting.
