Job Purpose

The Senior Chemist will perform analytical testing on raw materials, finished products, and samples throughout the production and engineering processes. The role ensures the analytical laboratory complies with relevant standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform analytical quality control testing to support manufacturing activities.
• Apply new or existing test methods to measure quantity, quality, and purity of compounds.
• Document findings and propose improvements to processes or testing techniques through reports.
• Investigate deviations thoroughly to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive measures.
• Troubleshoot analytical instruments as needed.
• Provide training on analytical testing methods to colleagues.
• Maintain laboratory compliance with procedural and process standards.
• Conduct research aimed at developing or enhancing analytical methodologies.
• Validate methods, investigate out-of-specification results, and review laboratory documentation.
• Review and approve analytical data for accuracy and completeness, up to but not including product disposition.

Qualifications and Skills

• A relevant NFQ Level 7 qualification combined with at least four years of relevant experience or an equivalent education-work experience mix.
• Strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, with an understanding of business functions in a quality-controlled environment, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Ability to analyze problems of moderate complexity, applying judgment within defined protocols.
• Experience mentoring junior staff, possibly leading moderate scope projects, and cultivating internal and external professional networks.
• Effective planning and organization skills to prioritize and meet established schedules.
• Decision-making within defined guidelines to ensure timely and resource-effective outcomes.
• Works under general supervision following established procedures; may provide limited guidance to junior employees and assist in their performance evaluations and career growth.
