Role Overview

Positioned in the Electrical Division Edmonton location, the Production Worker reports to the Manufacturing Supervisor in the Fabrication department. This role involves utilizing diverse skills and tools to fabricate precision parts and assemble Powell Canada products, supporting both production and maintenance activities.

Primary Duties

• Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenance on metalworking machinery.
• Mask and tape parts within the Powder Coating and Copper Dip departments.
• Transport components sequentially through manufacturing operations following routing instructions.
• Load and unload steel and other materials from trucks in indoor and outdoor settings.
• Assist in organizing shop and yard areas.
• Support machine operators with various tasks as needed.
• Detach finished parts from sheet metal skeletons.
• Deburr, grind, and finish metal parts using air and electric grinders or sanders.
• Sort and stack parts according to part and job numbers.
• Assemble part kits for welding processes.
• Operate pallet jacks, forklifts, and cranes safely.
• Use general hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and vise grips.
• Occasionally perform labor-intensive tasks like painting, grinding, sanding, or cleaning under supervision.
• Promote safety culture and participate in all safety meetings.
• Maintain product quality by adhering to standard work instructions and identifying risks.
• Keep work areas clean and well organized.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.

• Detail-oriented, reliable, and thorough in completing work tasks.

• Basic proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Metal fabrication shop experience of 1 to 2 years preferred.
• Relevant safety certifications are advantageous.

Work Authorization

This is a permanent position requiring legal authorization to work in Canada at hire. Immigration sponsorship is rare and subject to business needs and legal regulations.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

• Exposure to hot temperatures within a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial setting with occasional outdoor work.
• Mandatory use of personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, harnesses, and respirators when required.
• Frequent use of ladders (various types) and scaffolding, working at heights typically up to 30 feet using lift equipment.
• Physical demands include maintaining balance and agility to avoid falls, frequent bending, crouching, stair climbing, walking lengthy distances (50-300 feet), and standing for extended periods.
• Regular overhead work with arms extended, ability to exert up to 50 lbs force, and continuous use of hand tools including some vibrating power tools.
