Role Overview

Based at the Electrical Division Edmonton site, the Production Worker supports the Fabrication department under the Manufacturing Supervisor. This position involves employing various tools and skills to manufacture precision components and assemble Powell Canada’s electrical products, especially within the Copper Dip and Powder Coating areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on metalworking machines daily and weekly.
• Apply masking and taping techniques to parts in the Powder Coating and Copper Dip sections.
• Handle and transfer materials between manufacturing stages in line with routing instructions.
• Load and unload steel and other materials both indoors and outdoors.
• Support the organization of the shop floor and yard area.
• Assist machine operators with task-related activities upon request.
• Separate finished components from sheet metal frameworks.
• Deburr, grind, and finish metal parts using pneumatic and electric grinders or sanders.
• Sort and organize parts according to part and job numbers.
• Assemble parts kits intended for welding processes.
• Operate equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and cranes safely.
• Utilize common hand tools including hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and vise grips effectively.
• Occasionally perform manual labor tasks such as painting, grinding, sanding, or cleaning as directed.
• Promote and participate in a culture of safety, including attendance at safety meetings.
• Maintain product quality by following prescribed work instructions and identifying risks.
• Keep work areas tidy and orderly.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Ability to accurately interpret tape measurements and conversions between fractional, decimal, metric, and imperial units.
• Detail-oriented, dependable, and precise in task execution.
• Willing to learn and comply with manufacturing policies to uphold ISO standards.
• Collaborative team player capable of interacting productively across departments.
• Basic proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
• Minimum High School Diploma required.
• Experience of 1 to 2 years in metal fabrication is advantageous.
• Safety certifications are considered beneficial.

Work Authorization

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work is conducted in a temperature-controlled industrial environment with exposure to hot temperatures and occasional outdoor activities.
• Use of personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses, and respirators where required is mandatory.
• Tasks may involve working from various ladders and scaffolding, with heights usually up to 30 feet using proper lifting equipment.
• Physical demands include maintaining balance and agility to prevent falls, frequent bending, standing and walking long distances, climbing stairs, and working with arms extended above shoulder height.
• Continuous use of hand and power tools that may cause vibrations, requiring repetitive motions over extended periods.
