About Murrin Murrin Operations
Murrin Murrin Operations, located in the northern Goldfields of Western Australia, is Australia's largest cobalt producer and a significant global nickel producer. The site integrates mining and processing operations for nickel and cobalt with a workforce exceeding 1,000 employees. Role Overview
The Principal Resource Geologist will join a dedicated team providing strong technical leadership in geological and resource estimation activities. The position involves maintaining and enhancing geological databases, models, and methodologies while steering long-term geological strategies to support life-of-mine planning and resource expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Mineral Resource estimation, geological modeling, and resource classification efforts
- Ensure the integrity and governance of geological data and continuous improvement of estimation practices
- Develop long-range geological strategies aligned with life-of-mine and resource growth objectives
- Serve as the technical expert for geological intellectual property and specialist nickel laterite knowledge at Murrin Murrin
- Build team capability through mentoring, coaching, and technical knowledge sharing
- Manage the Resource Geology team to deliver timely, high-quality geological results
- Ensure compliance with JORC Code standards and industry best practices
- Drive advancements in geological systems, methodologies, and software applications
- Provide technical guidance to senior management regarding mineral resources, geological risks, and business opportunities
- Maintain departmental procedures, standards, and governance documents
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Geological Sciences or equivalent, with eligibility for professional institute membership and a current Western Australia C Class Driver's Licence
- Desirable postgraduate qualifications, Exploration Manager statutory qualification, and Competent Person status under the JORC Code
- Extensive experience in Resource Geology within large-scale mining settings including resource estimation, classification, and reporting
- Strong expertise in laterite nickel or comparable complex ore bodies, geostatistics, geological modeling, and estimation techniques
- Comprehensive understanding of the JORC Code, mine planning, and operational geology
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and leading technical geology teams
- Advanced skills in geological modeling, geostatistical multivariate estimation, and geological database management
- Experienced in estimation domain development, geostatistical analysis, variography, resource modeling, and model reconciliation
- Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation abilities with stakeholder influence and continuous improvement focus
