Role Overview

Step into a dynamic position within the Transmission & Distribution team in New Zealand, where you will grow your career as a Primary Electrical Engineer working on a diverse range of projects. Your role involves supporting the concept and detailed design stages for primary engineering projects, including substation layout and designs across various voltage levels.

Working with a seasoned team, you will benefit from mentorship and developmental guidance from senior and technical leaders, engaging with clients in New Zealand, Australia, and internationally on projects with varied scopes and complexities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in and complete detailed design packages related to primary electrical systems and substations for low, medium, and high voltage projects.
• Create and review single line diagrams, substation layouts, and design MV and HV cable systems.
• Coordinate with technical leaders to ensure timely submission of design packages following AECOM’s technical standards.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams including protection, control, civil, and secondary systems engineers to deliver timely and compliant designs.
• Contribute to client and stakeholder communication to assist in design completion and project outcomes.
• Maintain adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout project delivery.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering processes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 3 years' exposure to primary and substation design, preferably within New Zealand’s Transmission & Distribution sector.
• Strong understanding of electrical equipment like transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, and reactive components across various voltage levels.
• Knowledge of substation layout, insulation coordination, and earthing systems aligned with NZ standards such as AS/NZS.
• Ability to manage multiple projects effectively with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status or keen interest in achieving it, supported by a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or similar field.
