About the Role
Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in Wellington as a Consumer Policy Manager, where you will lead a skilled team engaged in shaping consumer and commercial regulatory frameworks. This key position provides advice on a wide array of consumer law and policy matters, overseeing essential legislation such as the Fair Trading Act, Consumer Guarantees Act, and Customer and Product Data Act. Your leadership will influence significant initiatives including consumer data rights, product safety, scam prevention, and broader consumer protection reforms.
Primary Responsibilities
- Offer strategic leadership to a diverse and high-impact workload affecting New Zealand consumers and businesses.
- Manage and develop the Consumer Policy team effectively, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.
- Advise the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs on consumer law and policy.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated leadership in policy team management and staff development.
- Extensive experience in handling complex public policy, regulatory, or legislative projects.
- Expertise in working at system level to identify and implement change.
- Strong skills in strategic planning, analysis, and problem solving.
- Proven ability in communicating and influencing senior leaders, including ministers.
- Capability to manage ambiguity and balance multiple priorities within a broad scope of work.
- Established record of building trusted relationships with governmental and external partners.
