Playwright + Python Automation Test Engineer

About the Role

This position focuses on creating, developing, and sustaining scalable UI and API automation frameworks utilizing Playwright with strong Python scripting capabilities. The engineer will work on designing reusable test suites that support cross-browser testing, CI/CD pipeline integration, defect management, and quality enhancement of automation processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable UI and API automated test frameworks using Playwright and Python.
• Apply design patterns such as Page Object Model, data-driven testing, modular architecture, fixtures, reusable utilities, and enable parallel test execution.
• Plan and implement automation for smoke, regression, integration, functional, and end-to-end test cycles.
• Integrate automation tests into continuous integration and delivery pipelines to facilitate swift and reliable release feedback cycles.
• Create robust cross-browser and multi-platform automation coverage leveraging Playwright capabilities.
• Develop API automation tests with Playwright API testing tools, Python requests, Pytest, or similar frameworks.
• Analyze test failures thoroughly, reduce flaky tests, and enhance test reliability.
• Conduct code reviews; enforce standards in coding, automation methodologies, reporting accuracy, and test design.
• Collaborate effectively with development, product management, DevOps, and QA teams within Agile environments.
• Manage defects using JIRA, perform triaging, and provide automation reports and release readiness metrics.
• Mentor junior QA engineers and promote the adoption of best practices in Playwright and Python automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or closely related disciplines.
• 6 to 10 years of solid experience in automation testing for web applications.
• Strong proficiency with Playwright automation coupled with Python scripting, including OOP, fixtures, data handling, and reusability.
• Working knowledge of Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Selenium WebDriver, and TestNG is advantageous.
• Experience architecting and maintaining large-scale automation frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Page Object Model, data-driven frameworks, modular design, and parallel test execution.
• Strong understanding of test design techniques such as boundary value analysis, equivalence partitioning, risk-based testing, and debugging methods.
• Familiarity with Pytest, Playwright Test Runner, and associated reporting tools.
• Ability to handle flaky test issues through effective waiting strategies, locator optimization, tracing, screenshots, video capture, and retry logic.
• Experience integrating automation tests into Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or other CI/CD platforms.
• Good command over Git workflows including branching, pull requests, and conducting code reviews.
• Proficient in defect tracking and project management tools, especially JIRA.
• Familiarity with build and dependency management tools like Maven, Gradle, pip, Poetry, npm, or yarn.

Additional Skills (Good-to-Have)

• API automation skills using REST Assured, Postman/Newman, Playwright API testing, or Python requests.
• Experience with Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) frameworks such as Cucumber or Behave, including Gherkin syntax.
• Knowledge of cloud-based test grids like BrowserStack or Sauce Labs.
• Familiarity with reporting and code quality tools including Allure, ExtentReports, SonarQube, ESLint, and Checkstyle.
• Exposure to microservices testing strategies and messaging systems validation such as Kafka.
