About the Role
This position is part of the Council’s Community Group, which delivers community-oriented services including Hamilton Pool, Parks and Recreation, Hamilton City Libraries, and major visitor attractions. The Parks and Recreation team is dedicated to preserving and enhancing Hamilton's extensive park network, ensuring the city remains attractive, enjoyable, and responsive to community needs.
Opportunities
As a Parks Maintenance Officer, you will be instrumental in the upkeep and improvement of Hamilton’s green spaces, sports facilities, playgrounds, and related council infrastructure. Your efforts will promote the health and wellbeing of the residents and support the City’s ambition to be the best place to live.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine safety maintenance tasks throughout parks, playgrounds, and sporting venues.
- Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and presentation in all work.
- Partner with contractors and collaborate with the Parks and Recreation team members.
- Complete tasks independently and cooperatively within teams, adhering to deadlines.
- Interact politely and professionally with the public.
- Maintain customer-centric approaches considering the needs of facility users.
- Manage the collection and disposal of rubbish across parks and grounds.

Skills and Qualifications
- Possession of a current New Zealand full driver’s license, Class 2 essential.
- Current first aid certification.
- Previous experience in maintaining parks.
- Experience in general maintenance and handyperson duties.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan and execute diverse work programs using various resources.
- Physical fitness appropriate for manual labor demands.
- Capability to juggle multiple tasks while maintaining quality service delivery.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workload volumes.
- Independent work capability alongside team engagement.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and problem solving to deliver efficient solutions.
- Ability to think quickly and resolve issues to achieve optimal outcomes for customers and colleagues.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting wage is $29.90 per hour, adjusted in line with skills and experience.

Additional Details
