About the Role
This position is part of the Digital Services division within the People, Performance and Culture group at Hamilton City Council, aiming to advance the council in becoming a community-focused leader by enhancing team productivity through optimal systems, tools, and workflows.
Job Overview
As a member of the Cloud & Network Team, you will collaborate with various stakeholders including business users, internal/external customers, application developers, and project managers. Your main focus will be on managing large-scale systems, applications, databases, and reports using diverse tools, processes, and technologies.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage and automate the council's backup systems, system patching, and patch management processes.
- Supervise and monitor the overall IT infrastructure systems, networks, and related workflows.
- Ensure compliance with backup, recovery, and system service level agreements (SLAs).
- Drive automated workflows for patch deployments and maintain robust information security.
- Ensure system functional integrity, performance, capacity, and high availability.
- Support a Windows server environment spanning over 150 servers across on-premises, private, and public cloud configurations.
- Work with ESX virtualization technologies and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
- Troubleshoot user issues in Windows environments, including access and account problems using tools such as event viewer.
- Continuously acquire knowledge of new technologies and skills as required.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary or industry IT qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Microsoft Azure Administrator Certification or an equivalent credential.
- Solid understanding of server architectures, backup frameworks, and patch management solutions.
- Minimum of three years’ experience managing servers, networks, backup operations, and patching systems.
- Proven track record in automating patch management and backup/recovery strategies.
- Hands-on experience with Active Directory administration.
- Experience using SCCM for automatic patch deployments and working with ESX virtualization.
- Preferably knowledge in network configuration, firewalls, DNS, and network support.
- Basic scripting skills, particularly in PowerShell, are advantageous for task automation.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate technical information both verbally and in writing.
- Experience working in a local government environment is desirable.
