Cybersecurity Engineer

About the Role

This position is part of the Digital Services division within the People, Performance and Culture group at Hamilton City Council, focused on enabling the council to become a leading, community-centered organization by optimizing team priorities, systems, processes, and tools.

We seek a skilled, proactive Cybersecurity Engineer with a mindset oriented toward security by design, to join our agile Digital Services team. Your work will balance operational, tactical, and strategic tasks aligned to our cyber roadmap, including delivering initiatives, managing cybersecurity incidents, and overseeing risk management. You will influence cyber strategies, administer systems, and help enforce cybersecurity standards.

You will work closely within the Cyber team and collaborate cross-functionally across Cloud, Network, Application Platform teams, Service Desk, and other areas of the organization. The role involves being part of an agile team focused on strategic and tactical efforts to strengthen cybersecurity posture across diverse business units and infrastructure.

Qualifications and Experience

• Advanced certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, ISO Auditor, or GIAC are preferred.
• Deep understanding of cybersecurity concepts, practices, and tools.
• Experience defending cyber environments involving people, processes, and technology.
• Knowledge of security frameworks and ability to conduct security assessments and vulnerability analysis.
• Familiarity with cloud security principles and virtualization technologies.
• Practical hands-on experience with security tools.
• Minimum of 5 years professional experience in cybersecurity or a related field.
• Proven experience implementing and maintaining security controls while effectively identifying and mitigating risks.
• Ability to advocate for the Cyber and Risk function within Digital Services and across the organization.
• Capability to manage multiple deadlines under pressure.
• Commitment to developing and upholding cybersecurity policies and procedures.
• Experience working in agile environments both within Cyber teams and collaboratively across diverse teams.

Additional Information

Salary: The remuneration ranges from $113,178.35 to $159,781.20 annually, depending on the candidate's skills and qualifications.
