Job Overview
Cushman & Wakefield invites applications for a Carpentry Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join their Hamilton Trades team. This role is ideal for seasoned carpenters or tradespeople aiming to transition from practical site roles to office-based estimating and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce precise estimates, pricing, tenders, cost plans, and quotations mainly for carpentry and general building tasks.
- Analyze construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents.
- Evaluate labor, materials, subcontractor expenses, and other project costs.
- Develop competitive pricing strategies factoring in margins and profitability.
- Estimate for maintenance, refurbishment, fit-out, and small to medium commercial projects.
- Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal trade teams.
- Assist in project coordination, cost monitoring, and managing variations.
- Handle multiple estimating projects and deadlines concurrently.
- Support procurement activities and supplier/subcontractor pricing engagements.
- Ensure accurate documentation for estimating and job costing.
- Foster strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
- At least 10 years' experience in New Zealand's building and construction sector.
- Solid understanding of carpentry, construction techniques, materials, and building systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in estimating, pricing, tendering, cost planning, and quotation preparation.
- Strong commercial insight into labor, material costs, subcontractor charges, margins, and profitability.
- Proficient in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, scopes, and contracts.
- Good command of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and estimating or job management software.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Capable of independent work and sound commercial judgment.
- Professional demeanor with strong customer service orientation.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in Quantity Surveying with emphasis on carpentry, building maintenance, or general construction.
- Familiarity with pricing maintenance, refurbishment, fit-out, insurance projects, and small-to-medium commercial works.
- Background in project coordination, contract administration, site supervision, or construction management.
- Experience managing subcontractors, overseeing procurement, and controlling project costs.
- Knowledge of New Zealand building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
