Position Overview
Our Abu Dhabi office is seeking a Motor Surveyor to carry out professional and impartial evaluations of motor vehicle damage resulting from accidents or other insured events. The role entails examining vehicles to determine damage extent, evaluating repair feasibility, creating precise repair cost estimates, verifying these costs, and offering technical guidance to ensure equitable and efficient motor claim settlements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive physical inspections of vehicles damaged in accidents or incidents covered by insurance.
- Identify and document both visible and resulting damages accurately.
- Evaluate damage consistency with the reported accident circumstances and assess damage severity.
- Develop detailed and precise repair estimates, considering labor, spare parts, paint, and material costs.
- Review and compare garage quotations against current market pricing.
- Offer technical advice to the Claims Department regarding suitable repair approaches and costs.
- Determine whether a vehicle should undergo repairs or be declared a total loss, following company policy and procedures.
- Assist in calculating estimated repair costs relative to the vehicle’s value.
- Coordinate with authorized repair shops about repair scopes and estimates and monitor repair progress as required.
- Conduct follow-up inspections when additional damage is found during dismantling and verify supplementary estimates prior to approval.
- Generate clear, detailed survey reports and maintain photographic and other documentation for each inspection.
- Record inspection details accurately in the company’s claims management system and meet agreed turnaround times for reporting.
- Communicate professionally with policyholders, claimants, brokers, repair shops, and other stakeholders, explaining technical findings and resolving disputes related to damage assessments impartially.
- Collaborate effectively with claims handlers, adjusters, investigators, underwriting teams, and internal departments.
- Maintain constructive relationships with approved garages while safeguarding the insurer’s interests.
- Detect potential fraudulent or inflated claims by identifying inconsistencies between accident details, damages, photos, and documentation.
- Identify suspicious activities such as staged accidents, unrelated damages, and inflated repair estimates.
- Ensure all surveying work complies with UAE insurance regulations, company claims policies, delegated authority limits, and approved repairer standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related discipline is preferred.
- Proven professional experience in motor vehicle surveying or claims is highly desirable.
- Detailed understanding of vehicle construction, repair methods, spare parts, painting procedures, and mechanical and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with UAE motor insurance claims processes is a strong advantage.
- Valid UAE driving license.
- Experience inspecting varied vehicle types including luxury, commercial, hybrid, and electric vehicles.
- Recommended 3 to 5 years working experience in motor surveying, motor claims processing, automotive repair, dealership, workshop operations, or insurance technical assessments.
- Exposure to UAE garage networks and insurance repair procedures is preferred.
- Experience with total-loss valuation, negotiations on repair costs, and supplementary estimate evaluation is beneficial.
