Mining Geologist

Position Overview

We invite applications for the role of Mining Geologist to become part of the Technical Services team supporting the growth of Avenira's upcoming phosphate mining operation. Under the guidance of the Senior Geologist, you will play a vital role in grade control, geological modeling, sampling campaigns, pit mapping, and ore management while collaborating closely with mining, processing, and logistics departments.

Work Environment

This position operates within a startup setting, offering the chance to establish key geological procedures and systems. You will gain comprehensive insight into mine geology, grade control, geotechnical assessments, and production support. The role requires FIFO work on a roster basis, with potential hire locations including Darwin, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Townsville, Mt Isa, and Cairns. This is a pivotal time to contribute meaningfully to a long-term mining project in the Northern Territory.

Core Responsibilities

• Assist with grade control activities, ore marking, and management of geological data.
• Perform pit mapping, blast hole sampling, and ensure quality assurance and control protocols.
• Update and maintain short-term grade control models.
• Support ore tracking alongside stockpile and blending management.
• Conduct geotechnical inspections, monitoring, and related hazard reporting.
• Work cooperatively with mining, processing, and logistics teams to optimize ore delivery.
• Participate in initiatives aimed at production efficiency, grade control improvements, and continuous operational enhancement.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• Between two and five years’ exposure to open-cut mining operations.
• Hands-on experience with grade control, sampling methods, and QAQC procedures.
• Familiarity with geological modeling and involvement in mine production environments.
• Proficiency or experience with Micromine Origin, Surpac, ArcGIS, QGIS, or comparable software is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to thrive in a team-oriented setting.
• A self-motivated attitude and readiness to contribute actively in a growing mining environment.
