The Amazon World Wide Operations Security (WWOS) mission centers on reducing security and operational risks to ensure uninterrupted operations.

This London-based Meteorologist position supports the Global Risk and Resilience team within WWOS. Acting as an individual contributor, you will craft tactical weather forecast products supporting logistics in the EU and Rest of the World territories. Additionally, you will deliver weather briefings during significant disruptive weather scenarios and manage complex weather-related projects impacting Life and Safety, Operations, and Brand.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute detailed meteorological risk analyses utilizing advanced forecasting tools and data systems to assess potential impacts to Amazon's operations across the EU and global sectors.
• Aggregate, analyze, and interpret climate statistics, radar outputs, and satellite images through statistical methods and impact models.
• Identify emerging weather threats and trends proactively, producing clear, cohesive written and oral briefings for stakeholders across various business lines.
• Continuously monitor and forecast weather and climate hazards globally, providing timely analysis and recommendations during evolving weather events.
• Offer meteorological expertise to leadership and operational teams during major weather incidents, supporting Business Continuity, crisis, and security management.
• Integrate official governmental weather alerts into tailor-made forecast products.
• Analyze weather pattern trends to pinpoint long-term risks and opportunities for operational resilience improvements.
• Contribute to comprehensive weather and environmental risk assessments considering vulnerability, historical impacts, and seasonal patterns across diverse geographies.
• Collaborate with internal customers to understand priorities; establish operational risk thresholds and escalation routes to shield people, assets, and reputation.
• Support development and execution of crisis management protocols across organizational levels.
• Design and implement automated tools to enhance threat monitoring, risk evaluation, and notification workflows.
• Maintain and create advanced weather tracking systems and dashboards to oversee threats to Amazon's infrastructure.
• Train and guide organizational teams on weather risk awareness, preparation, and crisis handling.

A Typical Workday

Start by reviewing overnight Kepler forecasts and governmental alerts across EU markets. Verify automated protection deployments and investigate coverage gaps. Quiet days focus on analyzing protection efficiency, developing SOPs, or advancing quarterly rule reviews. During active events, rapid response involves issuing activation recommendations, coordinating calls with operational teams, and balancing protection efforts without unnecessarily hindering delivery speeds. Weekly reporting and ad-hoc requests maintain the continuous rhythm of operations focus.

Team Overview

The WWOS Resilience unit manages operational continuity within Worldwide Operations Security, overseeing extreme weather response across the EU network from meteorological intelligence through customer-facing delivery protection measures. Collaborating closely with WWOS Meteorology and internal partners like EUCX, NetOps, and AMZL, the team ensures early risk identification and proportionate protection deployment to safeguard customers while minimizing network disruptions.

Required Qualifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite at an advanced level.
• Experience in compliance, auditing, or risk management roles.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
• Background in monitoring natural hazards, guiding incident response, and supporting supply chain decisions.
• Degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or related discipline.
• Familiarity with radar technology, forecasting software, and spatial data tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience applying technological solutions and lean methodologies or Six Sigma to improve processes.
• Master’s degree or equivalent advanced education.
