Opportunity Overview
This leadership role offers the chance to steer the strategic future of metadata at Auckland Libraries, ensuring collections stay accessible, discoverable, culturally respectful, and ready for future demands. You will collaborate with leaders, experts, and partners to enhance how metadata supports customer experience, innovation, and excellence across the library system.
Role Importance
Metadata is key to how patrons find and access collections. As the Metadata Lead, you'll define strategy, promote governance and standards, encourage collaboration, and foster ongoing innovation and sustainable practices. Your guidance will ensure metadata is deeply integrated into digital tools and emerging technologies like AI and automation, improving workflows and scalability.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead Auckland Libraries' metadata strategy and define its future path.
- Ensure consistent metadata standards, governance, and best practices.
- Promote collaboration and build capability across teams and partners.
- Drive innovation, continuous enhancement, and adoption of emerging metadata techniques.
- Advise strategically and represent the library within the broader sector.
Candidate Profile
You are a strategic thinker balancing visionary outlook with practical delivery, passionate about metadata, information discovery, and emerging tech. You excel at influencing and uniting diverse groups within complex organizations.
- Extensive leadership experience in metadata, governance, or information management.
- Track record in crafting strategy, governance models, standards, and organisational practices.
- Ability to develop capabilities, influence results, and foster collaboration across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledgeable in new metadata advances, including linked data, automation, and AI-driven possibilities.
- Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
- Dedication to culturally responsive practices and incorporating Te Ao Māori perspectives.
- Exceptional communication, relationship building, and advisory capabilities.
