Job description

Role Overview

The Manager Property Advisory is a subject matter expert who provides comprehensive and strategically aligned property and land advice, enabling Auckland Council to make confident and well-informed decisions. This role leads a specialist technical and statutory advisory function, serving as the main contact for Council departments and elected representatives on property and land issues. The advice given must be evidence-based, commercially robust, compliant with legislation, and well governed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert, strategic commercial property and statutory land advice across Council portfolios and engage with local members.
  • Lead recommendations relating to property investments, land use planning, and portfolio optimisation.
  • Oversee preparation of business cases, conduct financial analyses, and perform value-for-money assessments.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance asset performance, increase revenue, and improve utilisation.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing advisory team and contribute to expert panel governance.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive experience in legal, planning, property, or related fields within local government environments.
  • Deep understanding of legislation including the Resource Management Act, Public Works Act, Reserves Act, and Local Government Act.
  • Strong grasp of public sector governance and statutory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide senior-level advisory input within politically sensitive contexts.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in building and developing teams.
