About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join a reputable building services company specializing in mechanical and facilities solutions across diverse sectors. The role offers a salary between £50,000 and £55,000, along with a car allowance and a comprehensive benefits package including 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and an additional day off for your birthday, a profit sharing scheme, salary sacrifice pension, death in service benefits, a cycle to work scheme, and company events.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the estimating process from initial inquiry to tender submission to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
- Analyze tender drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project needs and assess related commercial risks.
- Conduct detailed take-offs, prepare bills of quantities, and calculate rates for labor, plant, and materials.
- Manage inquiries with the supply chain, securing and evaluating competitive quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Maintain communication with clients, consultants, designers, and internal teams throughout the tendering process.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and value engineering to enhance project value and profitability.
- Ensure cost planning and estimates reflect project requirements and associated risks accurately.
- Prepare and present finalized tenders for management approval and client submission.
- Assist with commercial management activities such as valuations, variations, cost value analysis, and final accounts.
- Recognize and aid in managing project risks and opportunities.
- Contribute to ongoing process improvements while complying with company procedures, quality and environmental management systems (QEMS), and health and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience as a Mechanical Estimator within construction or building services.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience preparing comprehensive tenders, performing take-offs, and developing labor and material rates.
- High commercial acumen with skills in obtaining and analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Good knowledge of mechanical materials, products, and their installation requirements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tender projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and relevant estimating or commercial software tools.
- Approach is flexible, proactive, and commercially oriented.
