Role Overview

We seek an experienced Mechanical Assembly Engineer to join our team. This role involves assembling machinery and equipment to a high standard within prescribed timelines. The assembly engineer contributes to operational excellence, fosters teamwork, and supports our commitment to delivering exceptional customer service in compliance with company policies and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere strictly to Health & Safety at Work regulations, current laws, and BW Packaging policies.
• Wear required personal protective equipment including safety glasses and footwear at all times, plus additional PPE as necessary.
• Interpret assembly drawings, bills of materials, and specifications for effective machine build planning.
• Fit and assemble mechanical components accurately, using appropriate tools and industry-standard engineering practices.
• Install and secure pneumatic lines and relevant components for compressed air operation.
• Report any assembly or documentation issues promptly to operational leaders.
• Record torque and quality checks by marking fasteners and signing the worksheet.
• Dismantle equipment and assist with packing and loading duties when needed.
• Provide guidance and oversight to mechanical assembly laborers to ensure compliance with procedures, safety standards, and quality policies.
• Mentor apprentices and team members to develop their mechanical skills and technical knowledge.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring they are hazard-free and presentable to customers.
• Be willing and flexible to work overtime during evenings and weekends to meet operational demands.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 3 years' practical experience in mechanical assembly, preferably within the packaging industry.
• Educational background in a relevant engineering field, such as an Advanced NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent apprenticeship.
• Strong interpersonal skills paired with excellent time management capabilities.
• Self-motivated with a positive, flexible approach to work.
• Capability to operate independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
• Strong determination and drive to achieve success.
• Possession of necessary hand tools for mechanical assembly tasks.
