Job Overview

This role involves assisting customers by cutting and preparing meat items according to specific requirements regarding variety, size, quality, and trimming. The Meat Cutter supports daily activities within the meat and seafood sections, aiming to boost customer trust and loyalty through consistent and compliant operations. Providing fresh, well-presented products with attentive and knowledgeable customer service is essential. Additionally, merchandising tasks must align with department guidelines while monitoring product levels, minimizing waste, and responding to sales trends. Key Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming environment that increases customer comfort and loyalty.
  • Prepare and package various food products, including fresh and smoked meats, seafood, lunchmeats, frozen, and salted items, according to production standards and customer requests.
  • Utilize cutting lists during peak times to trim, cube, slice, and grind meats per company requirements.
  • Properly wrap, weigh, and price products as needed.
  • Operate all necessary department equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Fulfill individual customer orders and perform counter clerk duties as needed.
  • Promote teamwork, trust, and respect by sharing information and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Adhere to all applicable laws and company policies.
  • Maintain department inventory—stocking, rotating, and inspecting items for freshness and quality while managing waste and shrinkage.
  • Receive and break down meat deliveries and maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace.
  • Ensure proper temperature control and documentation for food safety compliance.
  • Comply with food safety, USDA, COOL, and DOA regulations, including timely product recalls.
  • Support store safety programs, report hazards, accidents, and illegal activities, and ensure use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain equipment safety, reporting malfunctions and assisting with remediation efforts.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain such authorization.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background verification.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish preferred.
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant supervisory or work experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service orientation and effective interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills.
  • Basic math proficiency.
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations calmly and effectively.
  • Competency in knife handling with sufficient speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of cutting, tray preparation, wrapping, and labeling meat products.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The role requires standing, walking on diverse flooring, consistent use of hands and feet, reaching overhead, lifting up to 70 pounds, and pulling loads up to 250 pounds. Tasks may involve stooping, kneeling, balancing, crouching, and climbing up to 10 feet occasionally. The workplace environment may include indoor/outdoor areas with cold, freezing, heated, or humid conditions. Exposure to slippery floors, sharp instruments, hazardous equipment, noise, irritants, dust, fumes, cleaning chemicals, and toxins may occur. Equipment used includes slicing and cutting machines, safety gear such as gloves and goggles, and general hardware tools.
