Position Overview

The Master Data Management (MDM) Engineer will be integral to the global Data Governance team, focusing on maintaining the governance and quality of Customer and Vendor master data within the SAP S/4HANA platform. This role enforces standardized global data governance policies, drives data quality initiatives, and supports technical SAP MDG and ABAP activities to sustain data integrity and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and continuously improve master data governance procedures from concept to execution.
• Configure SimpleMDG modules for business partner master data (customer/vendor), including business rules, workflows, and validation logic.
• Deploy policies and frameworks tailored to vendor and customer data governance within S/4HANA.
• Assist in rolling out data management, governance, and quality platforms and their integration with systems such as S/4HANA, Salesforce, and the Enterprise Data Platform.
• Administer SAP MDG functionalities—data models, workflows, validation, and approvals—for customer and vendor masters.
• Investigate root causes of data discrepancies and lead corrective action per governance standards.
• Develop automated and AI-driven audit and validation techniques to ensure master data quality.
• Conduct compliance audits relative to policies and standards.
• Analyze impacts of master data changes on downstream systems.
• Oversee monitoring of integrations between MDM and connected platforms.

Technical Responsibilities

• Analyze ABAP programs, BADIs, user exits, and system enhancements linked to Customer master data and SAP MDG workflows.
• Support the implementation and enhancement of ABAP extensions including validation and workflow logic for MDG processes.
• Collaborate with ABAP developers to diagnose and resolve master data governance technical challenges.
• Perform technical reviews of SAP tables, CDS views, and data schemas to aid reporting and data quality validation.
• Debug workflow, validation, and integration issues impacting customer master data within MDG.
• Ensure custom developments comply with MDG governance best practices and standards.
• Contribute to impact assessments for system upgrades and transformations affecting master data structures.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years experience in data governance or management, emphasizing data protection or quality.
• Strong proficiency with SAP S/4HANA MDG, encompassing configuration of data models, governance workflows, and validations.
• Proven track record implementing MDM solutions across organizations.
• Working expertise in ABAP development fundamentals such as BADIs, user exits, code debugging, and SAP data model comprehension.
• Certification like MDG100 considered a plus.
• Desirable experience with PIM, Data Catalog, and Data Governance platforms.
• Knowledge of consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry nuances including product and SKU management.
• Experience harmonizing data and systems across multiple functions.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and distributed team environments.
• Capability to independently manage work in a dynamic setting.
