About the Role
McCain Foods is seeking dedicated Packing Operators to ensure the smooth and safe operation of packing lines for potato products at their 24/7 facility in Timaru, New Zealand. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining product quality and safety, involving both machine operation and manual handling within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Comprehensive training will be provided to empower you to take responsibility for your work area while contributing effectively to a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and perform troubleshooting on packing machinery including graders, weighers, baggers, case packers, tapers, coders, pallet wrappers, and labellers.
- Precisely complete required quality and operational documentation.
- Adhere strictly to hygiene and food safety standards.
- Identify and communicate any workplace hazards proactively.
- Maintain productivity, safety, and product quality on the line.
- Work a rotating roster of 12-hour shifts: 2 days (7am–7pm), 2 nights (7pm–7am), then 4 days off.
- Carry out physical manual handling duties as required.
- Respond promptly to operational issues following set procedures.
- Collaborate closely with team members to foster a safe and productive work environment.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Comfort with structured, process-driven workflows, maintaining focus and quality over 12-hour shifts.
- Strong health and safety commitment.
- Experience in machine operation and forklift driving is favorable but not mandatory.
- Mechanical aptitude with problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with simple touchscreen controls.
- Proficient in data entry and computer use.
- Clear communication skills and a positive, cooperative team mindset.
- Eagerness to learn along with reliability and consistency in following protocols.
- Physical fitness adequate for the demands of the role.
- Legal authorization to work in New Zealand.
- Ability to pass pre-employment medical, drug tests, and reference verifications.
