Role Overview

We seek an experienced Security Engineering Manager to lead our Detection & Response (D&R) team based in Sydney. Your leadership will be vital to scaling Snap's security monitoring systems effectively and ensuring operational excellence in investigating security events and incidents.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and take charge of multi-year, high-impact projects that expand our security monitoring capabilities in a cost-efficient way.
• Maintain high standards of technical quality and operational reliability for all security monitoring tools, investigation platforms, and automation.
• Balance tactical priorities and long-term security strategies to optimize team performance and system health.
• Participate actively in detection and response operations by investigating alerts and triaging incidents.
• Collaborate cross-functionally during security incidents to coordinate response activities.
• Align team goals with organizational strategies and partake in quarterly and annual planning.
• Encourage collaboration across stakeholders and cross-organizational partners.
• Support career development within your team, conduct performance management, and establish processes for delegation to uphold quality execution.
• Recruit and nurture skilled engineers, promoting a collaborative and positive team culture that influences the broader company environment.

Required Skills and Expertise

• Hands-on experience in digital forensics, malware analysis, incident management, host/network intrusion detection, or threat intelligence.
• Proficiency in software development with Python, Go, and/or Java.
• Strong understanding of OS internals with expertise in at least two of these platforms: macOS, Windows, Linux, Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent technical experience.
• At least 8 years of relevant industry experience post bachelor’s degree; or 7+ years post-master's degree; or 4+ years post-PhD experience in security.
• Minimum 1 year experience in an engineering management role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in threat hunting and automating threat detection and incident response workflows.
• Familiarity with cloud-based services such as Google Cloud Platform, Workspace, and AWS.
• Excellent communication skills with vigilance to detail.
• Practical experience operating within a BeyondCorp security model.
• Proven ability to collaborate across organizational levels and with external partners.
