Role Overview
We are seeking a Compiler Engineer to join our Embedded Software team at our Cambridge or Bristol design centers. This role involves developing and refining our LLVM compiler infrastructure to support Codasip’s innovative embedded CPU cores, including standard RISC-V cores, customized hardware extensions, and novel processor architectures created with our Studio EDA tools. The position demands technical versatility and creative thinking to contribute to both immediate, customer-focused projects and longer-term strategic software initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Customize and optimize the LLVM compiler for Codasip's standard and custom embedded CPU cores, including RISC-V and new architectures derived from Studio EDA tools.
- Provide compiler expertise to assist the Embedded Software team in software optimization efforts.
- Collaborate with processor design teams to inform microarchitectural design and performance optimization through compiler insights.
- Research and explore compiler technologies to support novel computing architectures and emerging technologies.
- Work with the Studio EDA tool compiler group to enhance the compiler itself.
- Serve as a software expert within the company, offering technical advice to internal teams and external clients.
- Mentor junior team members and foster skill development across the Embedded Software group.
Core Skills and Competencies
- Extensive expertise with the LLVM compiler infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of the C/C++ clang frontend.
- Understanding of high-level hardware microarchitecture and its impact on software performance.
- Adaptability and flexibility in work approach.
- Commitment to continuous learning and influencing the team’s technical growth positively.
Preferred Additional Experience
- Familiarity with RISC-V architectures and technologies.
- Experience implementing advanced software security features in compilers, such as CHERI.
- Rust language compiler development experience.
- Effective communication skills interfacing with technical personnel and management.
Additional Information
Location and Eligibility: Candidates must hold valid UK work authorization and preferably be based at our Cambridge or Bristol design centers.
This position is senior to principal level and involves both strategic and hands-on technical work within a globally distributed company setting.
