Role Overview

The Lighting and Control System Engineer will oversee the operational management, maintenance, and performance evaluation of all lighting and lighting control systems on the RF-001 expressway. This includes conventional street lighting, decorative and architectural installations, smart lighting controls, as well as underpass and tunnel lighting systems. The engineer ensures adherence to standards and contractual KPIs and SLAs.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead the maintenance and operation of decorative and architectural lighting on bridges, interchanges, and landmark structures, managing data communication protocols such as DMX512 and RDM including scene programming and troubleshooting.
• Assist in planning, testing, and eventual deployment of smart lighting controls using LoRaWAN technology, including configuring DALI/DALI-2 components and integrating energy and fault telemetry systems.
• Operate lighting systems within underpasses and tunnels following established standards like CIE 88 and BS 5489, ensuring correct dimming stages, luminance control, emergency lighting functionality, and interface with control systems such as SCADA.
• Manage fault diagnostics, preventive maintenance programs, and corrective interventions for all related lighting assets across the expressway network.
• Oversee subcontractor and internal teams, ensuring quality of work aligns with service level agreements.
• Produce technical documentation including risk assessments, method statements, reports, and maintain as-built records.
• Maintain compliance with electrical safety protocols, permit requirements, and health and safety regulations.

Technical Expertise

• Proficient with DMX512/RDM for decorative lighting controls and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of LoRaWAN for smart lighting systems (desirable, as part of planned future implementations).
• Experience configuring and managing DALI and DALI-2 drivers, including scheduling and telemetry reporting.
• Familiar with tunnel lighting standards (CIE 88) and photometric verification standards including BS 5489 and EN 13201.
• Understanding of low-voltage electrical distribution, including cabling, protection, and earthing.
• Ability to operate and analyze data from lighting management systems and asset management software.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of six years of hands-on experience with street, decorative, and tunnel lighting systems.
• Demonstrated expertise with DMX512 and RDM decorative lighting control systems is mandatory.
• Familiarity with smart lighting technologies (LoRaWAN, DALI, CMS) preferred due to upcoming projects.
• Knowledge of relevant standards (BS 5489, CIE 115, EN 13201, CIE 88) related to lighting performance and safety.
• Experience working on highway maintenance or performance-based contracts is preferred.
• Certification or registration with MMUP/UPDA electrical category is advantageous.
• Possession of a valid Qatar driving license is preferred.
• Competent in generating reports and adept with asset management and data analysis tools.

Work Environment and Reporting

This position is within the Electrical and Street Lighting Department reporting to the Project Manager. The engineer directly reports to the Electrical and Street Lighting Manager and collaborates closely with area engineers, contractors, and clients. Coordination with traffic, tunnel, and SCADA operational teams is vital for integrated system management.
