Job description
Position Overview
We are recruiting a seasoned Lead Power Systems Engineer to spearhead power systems engineering tasks encompassing design coordination, technical evaluations, procurement assistance, construction collaboration, testing, commissioning, and overall technical delivery within major EPC Power & Digital Infrastructure projects based in Qatar.
Experience Requirements
- At least 12 to 15 years of professional experience in electrical and power systems engineering.
- Proficient in executing EPC, EPIC, turnkey, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Hands-on expertise with High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), and Low Voltage (LV) power systems.
- Familiarity with substations, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS, protection mechanisms, and power distribution frameworks.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical studies including load flow, short circuit analysis, protection coordination, motor starting, voltage drop, harmonics, and arc flash risk assessment.
- Experience using power system analysis software tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SKM, or equivalents.
- Coordination capabilities across clients, consultants, OEMs, vendors, construction, commissioning, and multidisciplinary engineering groups.
- Preferred familiarity with SCADA, EPMS, EMS, IEC 61850 protocols, or digital substation technologies.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead power systems engineering throughout project phases including concept development, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and project handover.
- Create and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical load lists, load schedules, design standards, and power distribution approaches.
- Oversee and validate electrical system studies related to load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, motor starting, harmonics, voltage drop, and arc flash.
- Manage engineering review and coordination for HV/MV/LV substations, transformers, GIS/AIS, switchgear, generators, UPS, batteries, and distribution systems.
- Formulate and assess protection and control philosophies, relay coordination schemes, and technical calculations.
- Evaluate technical specifications, equipment data, material requisitions, BOQs, vendor submissions, and technical bid assessments.
- Coordinate efforts with SCADA, EPMS, EMS, automation, instrumentation, telecom, civil, and mechanical engineering teams.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), pre-commissioning, energization, commissioning, and final handover activities.
- Provide technical support to procurement, construction, commissioning, and project management stakeholders.
- Identify and solve design, construction, interface, and commissioning challenges.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, international standards (IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC), quality, health, safety, and environment standards.
- Lead and mentor electrical engineering teams, designers, and technical staff.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HV/MV/LV power systems including substations, protection systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, and electrical distribution.
- Proficiency in ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SKM or other equivalent power system analysis software.
- Familiarity with applicable international electrical standards: IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC.
- Strong leadership, engineering coordination, analytical problem solving, and communication skills.
