Role Description

We are seeking a Lead Engineer to drive water infrastructure strategic planning for New Zealand and Pacific regions, based primarily in Christchurch, with options to work from other offices. This senior position focuses on shaping the future of water systems by influencing how infrastructure is planned, funded, and delivered in an era marked by climate challenges, regulatory reforms, and evolving community expectations.

Key responsibilities include leading comprehensive infrastructure strategies across stormwater, water supply, and wastewater; guiding early-stage decisions such as business cases and investment prioritization; building long-lasting client relationships that establish our firm as a preferred partner; collaborating globally to offer integrated solutions; identifying new business opportunities; and mentoring team members to elevate collective expertise.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a strategic and trusted advisor with over 15 years of experience in water infrastructure planning and strategy, ideally complemented by project delivery expertise. Demonstrated ability to influence planning and investment decisions and strong systems thinking skills that balance technical, environmental, and economic factors are essential. Experience engaging with senior decision-makers in councils, utilities, or government, coupled with an in-depth understanding of the New Zealand water sector's reform landscape, is required. A commercial mindset, client relationship building aptitude, and clear, confident communication skills that simplify complex concepts are also important. Motivation to achieve sustainable outcomes for communities and the environment, while positioning the organization as an industry leader, is vital.

Work Model
