Monitoring Engineer

Position Overview

This role involves the continuous observation and support of data-center infrastructure and IT environments, encompassing servers, virtualization, storage, backup systems, databases, network, security, and applications. The incumbent is tasked with alert management, preliminary troubleshooting, accurate incident documentation, and ensuring proper notifications and escalations are handled timely.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor infrastructure and data-center environments on an ongoing basis.
• Supervise servers, virtualization platforms, storage devices, backup solutions, database systems, networks, security mechanisms, and applications.
• Observe dashboards to detect and act on system alerts and events promptly.
• Conduct initial validation and primary troubleshooting of alerts received.
• Create and categorize incidents precisely within the ITSM or ticketing systems.
• Notify relevant technical teams and escalate incidents appropriately.
• Adhere to specified incident escalation workflows and service level agreements.
• Monitor and progress open incidents through to their resolution.
• Keep detailed and accurate records of incident and monitoring activities.
• Assist with shift transitions and compile daily operational reports.
• Recognize recurring alerts and report these patterns to Level 2 or Level 3 technical teams.
• Comply with established monitoring, escalation, and operational protocols.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Experience ranging from 1 to 3 years in Network Operations Center (NOC), IT support, infrastructure monitoring, or similar technical roles.
• Fundamental understanding of IT infrastructure and data-center operations.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and ITSM or ticketing software platforms.
• Basic technical knowledge of networking, servers, storage solutions, backup procedures, and virtualization technologies.
• High attention to detail with the capability to swiftly react to system alerts.
• Willingness and ability to work in 24/7 or shift-based scheduling environments.

Preferred Certifications

• ITIL Foundation certification considered advantageous.
• Training in monitoring platforms is preferred.
• CompTIA Network+ certification is a plus.
