Position Summary
The role of Lead Engineer / Manager - Electrical, located at the DLF facility in Chennai within the Power Business Unit, calls for leading, fostering, and coordinating the Electrical section of the Transmission & Distribution team. Responsibilities include guiding project execution from design inception to closure, managing multi-disciplinary teams onsite and offshore, and liaising with partners and subcontractors internationally. Candidates require a minimum of 14 to 18 years of relevant experience (18+ preferred for managerial roles) and hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with professional credentials.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of electrical designs adhering to project scope and budget.
- Supervise design workflows to meet internal and external quality standards and project milestones.
- Apply Quality Management System protocols throughout the design phases.
- Validate conformity with applicable Project Technical Specifications, utility requirements, and international standards.
- Inspire and guide the design and engineering teams toward high performance.
- Collaborate directly with clients to meet or exceed their expectations.
- Advise team members on proper documentation practices aligning with company document management.
- Contribute to engineering cost estimates and technical proposals during bidding stages.
- Maintain up-to-date expertise on relevant codes, regulations, and engineering standards.
- Support upper management in tracking progress and financial metrics by providing accurate inputs.
- Coordinate with other disciplines and departments for seamless project operations.
- Lead design meetings, prepare reports, and deliver presentations effectively.
- Identify training requirements within the section and coordinate their implementation.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Strong expertise in designing electrical systems for LV, MV, HV, and EHV substations from conceptual design through construction documentation.
- Practical knowledge of transmission and distribution principles alongside construction coordination across engineering disciplines.
- Proven ability to size electrical equipment, develop equipment layouts (GIS switchgear, transformers, capacitor banks), trays, duct banks, tunnels, lighting, shielding, earthing, and AC/DC auxiliary systems with interdisciplinary coordination.
- Experience drafting equipment specifications, feasibility assessments, design basis reports, and tender documentation.
- Familiarity with standards such as IEC, IEEE, British Standards (BS), SASO, SEC, and regional quality and metrology requirements.
- Competency with electrical design software including CDEGS, ETAP, CymGrid, Dialux, drafting applications, 3D modeling tools, and document management systems.
- A passion for power systems with leadership proficiency to mentor staff and innovate in design and project management.
- Excellent communication capabilities in English, both verbal and written, for presentations and documentation.
