Job description
Position Overview
The Junior Sous Chef plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating kitchen operations, including supervising cooks and kitchen workers. Responsibilities include orchestrating the presentation of food, crafting appealing decorative displays, managing portion sizes and garnishments, and ensuring the quality and quantity standards of prepared dishes are met.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate activities of kitchen staff including cooks and helpers.
- Design and arrange decorative food presentations ensuring appropriate portion control and garnishing.
- Monitor the quantity of food prepared to meet demand.
- Communicate menu specials and inform Food & Beverage service teams about out-of-stock items.
- Prepare special or substitute meals as required.
- Support kitchen staff by providing necessary tools and assistance for task completion.
- Track inventory of kitchen supplies and food items.
- Maintain kitchen logs related to food safety programs and product quality.
- Ensure food quality aligns with set standards and notify management if issues arise.
Supervisory and Compliance Responsibilities
- Assist management in recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, counseling, discipline, motivation, and mentorship of kitchen personnel.
- Follow all company protocols related to safety, security, and hygiene; report accidents, unsafe conditions, and maintenance needs promptly to management.
- Complete mandatory safety training and maintain certifications.
- Maintain a professional appearance with clean uniforms and uphold confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Safeguard company assets and address guests' service requirements effectively.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged durations.
- Capability to reach overhead and below knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Physical strength to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Perform additional reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Educational background in Technical, Trade, or Vocational schooling.
- 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience in hospitality culinary roles.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory capacity within a kitchen or food service setting.
- No specific license or certification required.
