Role Purpose

The Instrumentation Engineer will report to the Instrumentation Manager and join Saipem’s Engineering Fixed Facilities Department in Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out technical project assignments as designated by the Instrumentation Discipline Lead, including design, checking, defining layouts, drafting installation drawings, material specification, validation, testing, and engineering of process measurement and actuator instruments, installation components, and safety elements.
  • Collaborate and coordinate actions with other project specialists and designers.
  • Manage and align technical tasks performed internally and by external contractors.
  • Ensure all work meets QA/QC and HSE standards.
  • Develop technology knowledge and provide commercial support.
  • Evaluate project feasibility.
  • During bidding, prepare instrumentation elements and quantities for cost and installation estimates, and assist in defining man-hours and cost plans.
  • Review client technical documents and requirements.
  • Supervise subcontracted engineering tasks and assess related documentation.
  • Define engineering design basis and guidelines.
  • Compose technical documentation for instrumentation materials and service requisitions and conduct internal technical evaluations.
  • Offer technical assistance to the project team.
  • Streamline instrument design to minimize costs and complexity while adhering to contract and safety requirements.
  • Prepare technical specifications, data sheets, installation specifications, drawings, bills of quantities, and material take-offs.
  • Contribute to P&ID mechanization.
  • Validate vendor sizing calculations for control and safety valves as well as measurement elements.
  • Coordinate engineering and 3D modeling related to instrumentation.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing and vendor workshop activities.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to construction and start-up phases.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree in Instrumentation Engineering is preferred; other relevant degrees considered.
  • Over 5 years of expert-level EPC instrumentation experience.
  • Proficient in English language.

Technical Knowledge

  • Experience within EPC projects.
  • Understanding of company processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Technical support provision capability.
  • Experience with bidding procedures, standard codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of design criteria and guidelines.

IT Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel (advanced skills), PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
