Head of Programme Management

Role Overview

This leadership role involves guiding the Programme Management function for a major infrastructure initiative in Wellington. You will be tasked with developing and nurturing a skilled team of programme and project managers, establishing effective delivery frameworks, and fostering a culture of excellence at Tiaki Wai.

This full-time position requires 40 hours per week, based at our Petone location.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing programme and project management community.
• Implement uniform governance, risk management, commercial oversight, and project delivery standards across the capital programme.
• Provide strategic leadership and guidance on complex projects, commercial challenges, and resource planning.
• Create and maintain the Project Management Centre of Excellence, developing methods, controls, tools, and standards for consistent project execution.
• Enhance professional capabilities through coaching, workforce planning, succession strategies, and ongoing development initiatives.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a tertiary degree in project management, engineering, construction, business, or a related field.
• Hold a recognized project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile).
• Demonstrate substantial leadership experience in infrastructure or capital project delivery including managing project managers.
• Proven track record in establishing or enhancing project management frameworks, methodologies, and consistent delivery practices.
• Experienced in navigating complex governance structures and multi-stakeholder programme environments.
• Strong financial and commercial expertise, encompassing procurement, contract and budget management, risk mitigation, and commercial decision-making.

About Tiaki Wai
