Role Overview
Tiaki Wai is looking for a seasoned governance manager to lead a committed team providing strategic advice and support to the Tiaki Wai Board, Board Committees, and Chief Executive. This role involves enhancing governance capabilities across the organization by establishing robust frameworks, policies, procedures, and delegations aligned with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the organization in governance practices, ensuring full legislative and regulatory compliance that is well documented and communicated.
- Provide inspirational leadership to grow team skills, foster excellence in performance, and deliver operational success.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement to promote governance best practices across the organization.
- Collaborate with the Company Secretary to consistently offer high-quality governance advice and support.
- Establish trusted relationships internally and with external partners to strengthen governance outcomes.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have exceptional written communication and document management skills and the ability to influence senior management effectively.
- Proven leadership experience in managing and coaching teams to elevate governance standards.
- Extensive background providing strategic governance within regulated, Crown entity, or public sector environments.
- A track record of supporting and advising Boards, senior executives, and committees effectively.
- Strong skills in planning, organization, and producing governance documentation such as papers, minutes, and reports.
- Excellent relationship-building abilities, adaptable and collaborative in approach with strong influence skills.

Tiaki Wai is a council-owned entity responsible for water services—drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater—in the Hutt Valley, Porirua, and Wellington regions. We manage extensive public water infrastructure focusing on long-term asset management, maintenance, and key infrastructure projects to promote health, environmental protection, and regional growth.

Work Details & Conditions
This is a permanent, part-time role based in Petone, Wellington, requiring 40 hours per week.
Additional Information
