Job description
Overview
We are in search of a proficient GIS Consultant specializing in Urban Planning with more than a decade of experience working with ESRI GIS, FME, and open-source technologies. This role involves geospatial consultancy and project oversight, operating within teams distributed across the Middle East, India, and the UK employing hybrid work models.
The successful candidate will have extensive expertise in urban planning, spatial data analysis, and management. The position requires collaboration with urban planners, engineers, and various stakeholders to enhance urban development initiatives leveraging advanced GIS tools. Key duties include requirement gathering, management of Esri technology solutions, client presentations, and agile scrum participation with broader consulting and development teams.
Responsibilities
- Utilize ESRI GIS software to develop, administer, and scrutinize spatial datasets.
- Create and sustain GIS databases ensuring high data fidelity.
- Perform spatial analyses and modeling supporting urban development schemes.
- Automate data processes via FME or Python and mentor team members in automation techniques.
- Preprocess different data types to facilitate analytical processes.
- Interpret design and master planning procedures and revise research methodologies aligned to project scope and deadlines.
- Devise tailored urban analytic methods integrated into planning and design workflows.
- Produce maps, documentation, and visual presentations conveying spatial analyses.
- Offer specialized knowledge in spatial and regional planning, governance frameworks, and implementation tactics.
- Effectively communicate findings to diverse audiences with varying data literacy levels via verbal and visual methods.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to embed GIS data within urban planning practices.
- Deliver technical support and training on GIS tools across the team.
- Keep abreast of evolving GIS technologies and urban planning methodologies.
- Prepare and present proposals to clients and governmental bodies to facilitate development approvals and policy endorsements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
- Proficient in GIS platforms including ArcGIS and QGIS, with familiarity in web mapping and spatial database management.
- Solid understanding of data structures, systems design, and algorithms.
- Experienced in guiding and developing comprehensive regional and city spatial strategies along with governance and implementation frameworks.
- Capability to lead multidisciplinary projects ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
- Strong analytical problem-solving aptitude, communication prowess, and teamwork facilitation.
- Experience managing multiple projects effectively while meeting deadlines.
- Attention to detail and dedication to delivering high-quality, user-centric solutions.
- Background in urban planning and involvement in public sector projects is highly advantageous.
